What flooring is suitable for an exhibition stand?
Choosing exhibition flooring for an exhibition stand depends on the number of structures involved, how long staff and visitors will be standing, and how level the substrate is.
The organiser’s technical regulations specify the required fire classification. Evidence of compliance should be available before ordering.
Exhibition carpet is the most common and least expensive option. Ribbed carpet, needle-punch carpet and velour are available in many colours and are fitted with double-sided tape, which can be removed without residue. After the event, this floor covering will usually be discarded.
Carpet tiles can be laid loose without mortar or adhesive (dry-laid) and used more than once. A thin carpet covering provides limited walking comfort, however, and irregularities in the substrate remain visible through it.
PVC floor coverings are generally sold as vinyl flooring. They are abrasion-resistant, easy to clean and available in many designs; click vinyl flooring is installed without adhesive. PVC floor coverings require a level, clean substrate and remain hard underfoot without elasticity.
Where the substrate is uneven or cables need to be concealed, a system platform is used. It is covered with laminate, carpet or vinyl flooring and involves a supporting structure, installation time and edge ramps.
Click tiles made from PU-bound Rubber granules are laid loose without mortar or adhesive (dry-laid), directly on the exhibition hall floor, without a supporting structure or adhesive. Outdoors, they can also be installed on paving, gravel or natural ground.
At WARCO, dovetail-shaped teeth along the edges engage with one another. They join the tiles into a continuous surface without tools. The elastic structure yields slightly when walking or standing, which becomes noticeable over several exhibition days.
The tiles are water-permeable and weather-resistant, so they can also be used for outdoor areas. After the event, they can be lifted by hand and kept ready for the next date.
Versions with an EPDM Wearing layer achieve Cfl-s1 in accordance with BS EN 13501 Part 1. For a one-off appearance, exhibition carpet remains the obvious choice. Where exhibitors attend several times a year, build outdoors or spend many hours at the exhibition stand, click tiles made from Rubber granules are more suitable. The required fire classification is usually B1 or Cfl-s1 in accordance with BS EN 13501 Part 1.
