    How are rubber tiles laid on steel grating?

    Rubber tiles are laid directly on steel grating, without an additional substructure.


    The elastic covering reduces rattling and clanging noises and, depending on the construction, can prevent them entirely.


    Tile selection depends on the grating aperture and the intended load. The greater the spacing between support points, the stiffer the tile must be. For a mesh pitch of 3 × 1 cm, tiles 2 cm thick are suitable. A flat or only lightly profiled underside allows the tile to rest across the steel grating.


    The individual tiles are set out over the grating area in the required laying pattern. The starting point is determined by the dimensions and shape of the area. Tiles with puzzle interlocks form a stable tile assembly as they are laid.


    On balconies and terraces, puzzle-interlocking tiles can remain on the steel grating without further fixing. Small areas, and tiles with connectors, require edging or comparable edge restraint to prevent movement at the perimeter.


    On steel-grating steps, rubber tiles must always be firmly fixed, preferably by gluing or clamping. Tiles made from rubber granules are water-permeable, so rainwater passes through the covering across its entire surface and then drains through the openings in the steel grating.
