Which laying patterns can be used for rubber tiles?
Rubber tiles made from rubber granules can be laid in a grid pattern, diagonal bond, half bond or random bond. The available arrangements depend on the tile type and its interlocking system.
In a grid pattern, the joints align in both directions. Where tiles in different colours are used, this arrangement creates a chequerboard pattern. A diagonal bond is a grid pattern rotated relative to the edges of the surface.
With a half bond, each row is offset by half a tile length. In a random bond pattern, the offset changes from one row to the next.
Tiles without an interlocking system can be installed in all of these patterns. Tiles with plug-in connectors are generally intended for a half bond, while tiles with open or concealed puzzle joints are predominantly laid in a grid pattern or diagonal bond. Some product ranges also allow a half-tile or one-third offset; the requirements for the relevant tile system take precedence.
For a stable surface, the appropriate tile connection, a suitable substrate and correct installation are essential. The principal patterns for tiles made from rubber granules remain the grid pattern, diagonal bond, half bond and random bond, and tiles without an interlocking system can generally be laid in any of them.
